Our team partnered on a cinematic XR production inspired by the iconic World of Warcraft universe, combining real-time virtual production with high-end CGI to create an immersive visual experience. The project focused on seamlessly integrating live-action performances with expansive digital environments, delivering a cinematic narrative that preserved the franchise's epic scale while enabling efficient production workflows.
Creative approach
The creative direction centered on blending practical performances with photorealistic digital worlds through an XR pipeline. Using LED volume technology, real-time rendering, and custom CGI assets, we crafted dynamic environments that responded naturally to camera movement and lighting. Every visual element — from atmospheric effects to cinematic camera transitions — was designed to enhance immersion while maintaining the distinctive fantasy aesthetic associated with the World of Warcraft universe.
Challenges
One of the primary challenges was achieving seamless integration between physical production and complex virtual environments while maintaining visual consistency across every shot. The project required precise synchronization between real-time rendering, camera tracking, lighting, and post-production VFX. Optimizing performance without compromising cinematic quality was essential to meet both creative expectations and production deadlines.
Outcomes
The final production delivered a visually rich cinematic experience that combined the flexibility of virtual production with the quality of feature-level CGI.
